After a nationwide search, beginning in August 2005, Northwest Nationals is pleased to announce Chuck Sekyra as their Technical Director for their Edmonds based soccer club. Chuck has a unique blend of playing and coaching experience and has spent the last 15 years in all levels of the game.

During his collegiate career at Seattle Pacific University, Sekyra played a starting role on the 1986 squad which posted 10 shutouts and became the first team in Division II history, to win back-to-back national championships. He started 40 games for the Falcon’s and totaled eight assists.

Upon graduation from Seattle Pacific University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science, Chuck began his coaching career at Lakeside School as the boy’s varsity coach, guiding the team into the State Championship game in his first season. He spent the next nine years involved in boy’s and girl’s High School soccer and was chosen league “Coach of the Year” five times and had a 181-45-34 combined record. Chuck holds a USSF ‘A’ Coaching License and has been very involved with the Washington State Olympic Development program and is a Region IV Staff Coach.

After serving three seasons (2000-2003) as Assistant Coach at the University of Washington, Sekyra was named the Head Coach at Seattle Pacific University in February of 2003. He has had a very successful campaign at SPU as he has led the Falcons to three Conference Championships, three straight NCAA tournament berths and back to back undefeated regular seasons. Chuck was named “2005 West Region Coach of the Year” along with his third straight GNAC “Coach of the Year” and completed the 2005 season (20-1-4) in the NCAA National Championship game losing to Nebraska-Omaha, 2-1 in overtime.

As the Technical Director, Chuck’s duties will lie in the development of the Coaches and Players within the Northwest Nationals. He will be in charge of developing age group specific curriculums as well as helping to monitor the implementation of these programs. Chuck will also be providing the Coaches in the Club with training sessions on specific topics as well as evaluating all of the Coaches. Our Technical Director will also serve as a member of the Board of Directors to help with the long term planning of the Club.

The Northwest Nationals Board of Directors are dedicated to improving our Club every chance we get. The Board unanimously agreed that Chuck’s addition would provide our Coaches & Players access to one of the most outstanding Coaches in the Country and in doing so, keep the high standards of Northwest Nationals Premier Soccer Club.

Sekyra is married to Rhonda and the couple has a daughter. Welcome and we at Northwest Nationals are honored to have you come aboard!
