PORTLAND – Portland State women’s soccer released its second group of signees Tuesday afternoon, as head coach Tim Bennett announced that forward/ midfielder Tarah Authier, of Anchorage, Alaska; defender/ midfielder Maya Fontaine, of San Diego, Calif.; goalkeeper Cris Lewis, of Burien, Wash.; forward/midfielder Kat Robertson, of Seattle, Wash.; and midfielder/forward Amanda Sekijima, of Woodinville, Wash., have signed national letters of intent to play soccer for the Vikings. All five will be eligible for the 2006 season.
Robertson is a two-time second team All-Kingco performer at Inglemoor High School. She earned three varsity letters and is also a standout performer in track. Robertson was a member of Inglemoor’s 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams that placed fourth and sixth, respectively, at the 2004 Washington state meet.
“Kat is a tremendous athlete with great speed, and is a tireless worker,” Bennett said. “She is also very technically efficient has a good attacking mentality. She will be a very dangerous wide midfielder, as she has a huge upside and wll only get better and better.”
Sekijima lettered three years in soccer at Inglemoor High School and also competed in track. On the ODP level, she played for the Washington state team in 2002 and was an ODP state pool player in both 2003 and 2004. Sekijima also helped her Eastside Red ‘87 club team to a first-place finish in the Premier One League in 2004.
Sekijima and Robertson were both teammates at Inglemoor.
“Amanda is a hard worker and plays with a lot of passion,” Bennett said. She has great potential and she is already technically competent and physical. She will contend for playing time in the midfield.”
Portland State graduated 10 seniors from last year’s squad. The Vikings won the Big Sky Conference regular season title in 2004.
