GU11 White Conclude Season With Spot In Challenge Cup Silver Final
The G98 white team had a long road to the Silver Challenge Cup finals. In the elimination round, the girls pulled out a last second goal to lift them over Crossfire-Reynolds 4-3. Next came the long trip to Vancouver where the team struggled to score on a grass field, but managed to edge the Cheetahs 1-0 to advance to the semifinals. At Starfire for the semifinals, the girls excelled going up 4-0 against Westsound Black. They eventually gave up a penalty kick and ended the game 4-1. The finals we against a very big and strong Columbia Timbers Blue team. The Nationals put pressure on early and had a few chances on goal that were unsuccessful. Then, against the run of play, the Timbers scored with a long shot. The two teams battled back and forth for the rest of the game, which included a huge penalty kick save by our NWN keeper and a great save by the Timbers keeper off of a free kick. The final score was Nationals 0 - Timbers 1.
