BU16 Blue in Community Service

NWN BU95 – Blue Giving Back to Mt. Lake Terrace

On Saturday, May 14th the BU95 Blue team took the morning to give a little bit back to the community that is the home of NW Nationals. They donated their morning to the 11th Annual Volunteer Parks Cleanup Day. They were part of a group of about 60 volunteers who turned out to help clean up the Ballinger Playfield Complex, also used by NWN as one of our many practice fields. They spent 5 hours removing noxious weeds and blackberries, as well as, scrubbing down the play area equipment.

Ken Courtmanch, Parks Services and Property Management Superintendent, Thanked us for “having the team out. They were very helpful.” He also extended the opportunity to coordinate other team builders, to set up another event with other teams or to have NWN join in the Fall Event on September 24th.

For more information on how your team can have a great day “giving back” please feel free to contact Ken Courtmanch at KCourtmanch@ci.mlt.wa.us.

True Sportsmanship
Nationals and Crossfire come together

Members of Mark Metzger’s NW Nationals B92 and Sean Brazil’s Crossfire soccer teams, plus the coaches and officials gather before their game on Sunday, September 12 to pray for the Crossfire goalie who suffered a spinal cord injury in a boating accident in July.  Their concern for their brother-player represents the very best in sportsmanship and athletics, and it reminds us all of what is truly important in life.

Congratulations to our GU11 Dev, GU11 Red, and GU13 Red teams who all won their respective brackets at the Starfire Labor Day Cup. What a great way to end the summer and begin final preparations for the coming season!

B94 Blue Reach Semi-Finals
Good Weekend Concludes at Puma Pacific Challenge Cup

Our boys 94 blue team makes strong strides to reach semis at Puma Pacific Challenge Cup

The boys powered through multiple injuries including a blackout concussion with a possible broken nose. They made it to the semis, where they had a tough loss to BFC BU16 Herrera.

On a side note, they held the Shoreline Sting to a scoreless tie in round robin play. The Sting went on to win the tournament. The boys showed great spirit and parents and coaches can’t wait to see them play when they have a full complement of players.

Thanks to our great coaches for a strong team building experience: Kevin Lamb and Aaron Wolk. Aaron had to get very creative in the semi-final with us being three players down. Heal those injuries fast 94 blue! B94 Blue parents are very proud of the hard work all summer and we all look forward for the coming season.

GU11 White Conclude Season With Spot In Challenge Cup Silver Final

The G98 white team had a long road to the Silver Challenge Cup finals.  In the elimination round, the girls pulled out a last second goal to lift them over Crossfire-Reynolds 4-3.  Next came the long trip to Vancouver where the team struggled to score on a grass field, but managed to edge the Cheetahs 1-0 to advance to the semifinals.  At Starfire for the semifinals, the girls excelled going up 4-0 against Westsound Black.  They eventually gave up a penalty kick and ended the game 4-1.  The finals we against a very big and strong Columbia Timbers Blue team.  The Nationals put pressure on early and had a few chances on goal that were unsuccessful.  Then, against the run of play, the Timbers scored with a long shot.  The two teams battled back and forth for the rest of the game, which included a huge penalty kick save by our NWN keeper and a great save by the Timbers keeper off of a free kick.  The final score was Nationals 0 - Timbers 1.

GU12 Finish at top of PDL groups

Congratulations to two NWN GU12 teams: the GU12 Red team who won the PDL Division 1 championship outright for the forth time in a row, and the GU12 Blue team who finished in a tie for first place in PDL Division 3!

The win clinched the league championship for the Nationals, a marked improvement upon the squad’s 5th place finish during the Fall 2009 PDL season. The Nationals’ dominating play during the spring season was reflected in their 23-4 goal differential during the seven games.

The win completed the Nationals Spring 2010 PDL season with a record of 5-0-2. The team is unbeaten (9-0-2) over its past 11 games and improved to 27-11-4 overall with the result.  They will now prepare to make a run at the State Championship as Washington State Challenge Cup play starts on March 13.

Reiser Bolsters Team in Its Rise to the Top

Reiser has quickly become a role player for Columbia , and is one of just a few freshman who see significant playing time."As a freshman all you can do is work your hardest, but I’ve been really fortunate to the get the opportunities I’ve had," Reiser said. "Our coach gives everyone the opportunity to play, and you just have to show your skills."

Having played soccer for 16 of her 18 years, the game is definitely in Sophie Reiser’s blood. And in her first year at Columbia , Reiser has been a key component in the Lions’ rise to the top of the Ivy League.

MILL CREEK - Only a hooligan would claim that Dani Oster can't carry a soccer team on her petite-yet-explosive frame.

Some players are natural goal scorers, and Oster certainly fits the mold.

But to lift the Jackson High Timberwolves from good to great this past fall, the dynamic Oster set out to not just score goals but to also set them up. Her successful mission helped Jackson earn a third-place state-tournament trophy and triggered a barrage of individual awards that continues even today: Oster, a center midfielder who scored 20 goals and tallied 17 assists in 22 games during her senior season, is a finalist for the Herald's 2005 Woman of the Year in Sports award.
