Ben Somoza

Ben Somoza has been with Northwest Nationals for four years. He has served as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Washington men’s program and is currently the boys head coach at King’s High School. In 2007, Somoza guided King’s to second in the state 1A tournament and in 2008 the King’s Knights returned and won their first state championship. Somoza was voted the 2008 boys 1A coach of the year by a state wide media panel.  

A Seattle native, Somoza played for South Snohomish County Allemania and Edmonds-Woodway High School, where he was Everett Herald player of the year and Seattle Times athlete of the year in 1998. He played four seasons at Washington, serving as captain and making all-Pac 10 his final three seasons. He was a member of the U.S. national amateur side in 2001.

Somoza was drafted by the USL-Division 1 Portland Timbers and later played four seasons for the Seattle Sounders, including their 2005 championship team.
