Scott Newman

A mainstay in Washington Soccer as well as one of the most respected soccer personalities in the Seattle area, Scott Newman returns in 2014 to lead the Nationals as Coaching Director and extremely excited at the positive changes with the club entering the new season.  Newman had a phenomenal 2013 with the Nationals capturing four state champions, a US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Champion, with the G95, G96, and G99 Red teams winning under his care.

Scott's stellar resume has him working with Washingtons elite for almost twenty years, including collegiate stints at Willamette University in Oregon, where the Bearcats were nationally ranked as high as #3 nationally under his care, as well as the University of Montana, and the University of Washington Women.  Scott became the Goalkeeping coach for Seattle University in the spring of this year.

Scott has also served on the Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Region IV Olympic Development Program staffs, working as head coach of various state teams as well as heading up the Regions goalkeeping staff for the girls.  He coached the Washington ODP ’88 girls to a national championship in 2004 and brought the 89 girls to the national final a year later.

Scott worked with various Seattle-area high schools, such as, Lynnwood High School, Eastside Catholic High, Eastlake High, where he guided the girls a state championship in 2002 as well as Lakeside High, where he guided their girls to two state championships in 2000 and 2003.  Scott holds a United States Soccer Federation ’A’ license.

A Seattle native, Scott grew up in the Lake City and Kenmore areas and played soccer for Lake City Soccer Club and Northshore Youth Soccer.  Scott also competed at Shoreline Community College.  In addition to coaching, Scott worked for many retail soccer outlets for twenty years, including SoccerWest, The Soccer Shop, and Tursis Soccer Store.  Now living in West Seattle, Scott enjoys spending time on Alki Beach whenever he gets the chance.
