Most keepers will acknowledge that the most difficult saves to make are the ones that are low
and just to the side of them. While the save of shots hit to the upper corners look spectacular,
they actually are a lot of easier than the low shot hit wide of the keeper.
Since the keepers acknowledge the difficulty of the low save, it makes you wonder why so many take
such a high position in their initial stance. By starting lower in their stance, it will be much
easier to get down quickly for a low shot. It will also be easier to get up for high balls
because when a keeper starts in a high stance, they have to go from a high stance and bend more
in order to “load” up for an explosive dive.
In other words, it’s easier to get down for a low shot when you start in a low stance and it’s
easier to get up for a high shot when you start with a low stance.
