Air Force loses to Wyoming
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force women’s soccer team struggled to get its offense going, as Wyoming defeated the Falcons 3-0 in a Mountain West Conference match Friday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons concluded its 2005 regular season with a 4-15-1 overall and 0-7-0 conference record, Wyoming improves to 8-6-3, 4-3-0.
Amanda Lathrop put Wyoming up 1-0 with a goal in the 25th minute. Taking a pass from Tamika Wilson, Lathrop was able to beat Air Force goalkeeper Erin Wallace to the ball and tapped in a goal from 10 yards out.
Mercy Adetoye made it a 2-0 game with a score in the 56th minute, as she took a pass from Wilson and scored on an open net from 10 yards out. Wyoming went up 3-0 just two minutes later scoring on an own goal by AFA’s Amanda Cleland.
For the match, Wyoming dominated the shots, 18-7 and 10-4 on goal. Freshman Katherine Taylor led the Falcons with three shots. Freshman Erin Wallace had seven saves in the loss for the Falcons.
Ashley Sheppard had three saves in the win for the Cowgirls.
Prior to the game, the Falcons honored their three graduating seniors – Meredith Benson, Amanda Cleland and Raegan McDowell.
Air Force returns to action this Wednesday, Nov. 2, taking on top-seeded Utah in the opening match at 11:30 a.m. at the 2005 Mountain West Conference women’s soccer Championships in Las Vegas.
