Girls lose heart-breaker in semi-finals. A hard fought game found our girls on the short end of the stick, losing to the eventual regional champions from Colorado 1-0. This concluded a fabulous run for this team who ended up rated third in the Far West Region and who now currently sits #8 in the Youth National Soccer Rankings for this age group. Way to go girls!

Go USA!  Great win for them over Algeria.  Unfortunately, our game started at 9:30 am, which meant that we didn’t have a chance to cheer on the US.  We knew coming in that we needed to win or tie against Heat FC, from Nevada, to make sure we advanced.  Ashleigh got us off to a good start scoring in the 6th minute, finishing her own rebound off the post after a great through ball from Anna.  Emele immediately doubled that total with a goal in the 7th minute, as Amelia played a wonderful ball in behind the backline.  Maddie C put us 3 goals up with a great finish in the 11th minute after a long cross from Maddie S.  We rounded out our scoring in the first half with a 16th minute breakaway goal by Maddie S that Ashleigh set up with an amazing through ball.  The score at half time was 4-1 as we gave up a goal in the 26th minute.

The second half started with both teams battling hard, with our girls being put under a little bit more pressure early on.  We finally broke through their defense again in the second half when Maddie S finished a through ball from Gabby that put us up 5-1 in the 45th minute.  Christine ran on to a ball and tucked it in for a 6-1 lead in the 49th minute.  Finally, Gabby finished off the scoring with a goal in the 50th minute.  Final score, NWN 7 - Heat FC 1.  The only negative for the day was that Caroline might have broken a bone in her hand when she was fouled and had her hand stepped on late in the second half.

The girls are through to the Quarterfinals, where they will play either Hawaii or Cal-North.  Those two teams finished in a tie for second in their bracket and will have to do a PK shootout on Friday to determine who advances as the 2nd place team and who advances as a wild card 3rd place team.  The game will played at 2 pm on Friday.

June 22

We had an early, 8 am game versus Arizona State Champs (Sereno FC).  Although the game was early, it was good for us, since it was only 80 degrees at kick-off.  We played very well in the first half and had several very good goal scoring opportunities.  We hit the crossbar once and the post once.  We gave up a goal on a iffy PK call in the 41st minute.  Final score 1-0 for Sereno.  The girls played hard, and losing to a quality team like this is not a bad thing.  we know that we will have to come out and win tomorrow to gaurantee advancement.

We all woke up early for breakfast, then off to the field.  We had to be at the fields by 8:45 am.  Early, but it is a lot better then playing later in the day.  The temperature at kickoff was in the low 80’s.  We kicked off at 9:30 am.

We won our game over Las Vegas Premier, Nevada State Champs, 4-1.  Emele got us on the board first with a goal in the 15th minute.  Just after halftime we scored again with Maddie S, aka Nacho, putting in a rebound off of a great shot from Ashleigh in the 32nd minute.  Las Vegas  scored on a PK in the 34th minute to bring them back to within one goal.  After hitting the post and the crossbar at least 4 times, we finally scored off of a direct free kick by Lisa in the 58th minute.  Just one minute later Emele completed the scoring and secured the victory.

June 20

Happy Father’s Day to all!  We got up early to train.   Our 9 am training session was at the same time as we will be playing most of our first round games this week.  We did a good warm-up, some skill work, possession and finally some juggling games.  After training we went out to the game fields to see what they looked like.  We had a team meeting at 4 pm, and then went to a good Italian dinner as a team.  Looking forward to playing in our first game tomorrow.
