Boise, ID (August 1st)
A four day trip to Boise, ID was sure worth it for the NWN GU16 Blues as they captured the US Club National Title in the GU15 Premier age group. In a four-team bracket, the plan is to advance to the final. That is exactly what the girls were able to do - advance.
In the first match Friday, July 29th against Inter Rage Impact, a closely contested game ended in a 1-1 draw. An ok result to open pool play. The following day saw a pivotal game against Seattle United Copa. Anything but a loss would do, and that is what the girls were able to achieve posting another 1-1 draw.
Sunday brought the final game of pool play. A draw or better would see the girls on to the final. Up against NSA Showcase Blaze, a tough task lie ahead as NSA was the group leader with a 2-0 record. The low scoring battles from the first two games were a thing of the past as our girls ended day three with a crucial 4-3 victory. With the conclusion of pool play the standings read NSA in first, NWN in second, Inter Rage in third, and rounding out the group was Seattle United.
On to the final! In a repeat of the previous day’s encounter, the final pitted NWN against NSA. The fourth closely contested game of the weekend was another great result, as a 2-1 victory vaulted our girls to the podium to collect their first place medallions and trophy.
Congratulations to coach Val Seid and his team for a great accomplishment.
