NW Nationals Players win ODP Regional Championship
The Washington 98 Girl’s ODP team defeated Cal-South 1-0 to win a Region IV ODP Championship. Five NW National players were on the roster for Washington. The 98 ODP team defeated Colorado and Cal North in pool play. After advancing to the semi-finals, the girls defeated Cal-South’s 99 team 4-0 to advance to the finals. In pool play Cal-South ’98 defeated Washington 2-1, but the final was a different story as Washington shut out Cal-South to win the first Girl’s Regional Championship since 2005 and only the third overall.

This championship continues a history of success for NW National players. Over the years, all three Washington Girl’s ODP Regional Championship teams have had representation from the NWN program. In 2004, the Washington ’88 Girl’s team won the Regional Championship defeating Cal-North 1-0 in the finals. The ’88’s then went on to win a National Championship when they beat Connecticut 2-0 in the National Championship game. The ’88’s featured five future NWN alums on the roster, and were coached by current Director of Coaching Scott Newman and current NWN G94 Red coach Greg Lambert.
In 2005, the Washington ’89 Girl’s team brought home the Regional Championship by defeating Cal-South in PK’s. After a tough game ended 0-0, Washington, with PK’s from two NWN players, scored all five PK’s to outlast Cal-South 5-4. The 89’s lost to Eastern New York by a score of 1-0 in the National Championship game two months later. Washington ’89’s featured three NWN alums on their roster and were coached by Scott Newman.
